1927nm sits on a water absorption peak roughly ten times higher than 1550nm, so its energy is spent in the epidermis and upper dermis where pigment lives. 1550nm passes deeper and creates columns of coagulation for dermal remodelling. Neither wavelength ablates tissue, so the stratum corneum stays intact and the downtime profile is different from a CO2 treatment. Running both from one console lets a clinic treat surface pigment and depth in the same visit.
