Choosing a diode hair removal platform
Three things separate diode systems in this class: how many wavelengths the handpiece emits, how much power the bar delivers, and how well the machine sheds heat over a long day. A single 808nm bar covers most hair and skin combinations a general clinic sees. Adding 755nm raises absorption on finer, lighter hair, and 1064nm penetrates deeper and is the wavelength operators reach for on darker skin, where surface melanin competes for the same energy. A triple- or quad-wavelength handpiece is one machine that can be tuned per client instead of two trolleys.
Rated power is the specification most often quoted and most often misread. What matters in practice is sustained output across a full treatment list, which is a function of the cooling system rather than the peak number on the brochure. Ask what the machine does in hour six, not in the first pass. Spot size and repetition rate then decide how long a pair of full legs actually takes — the difference between a 40-minute and a 70-minute appointment is the difference between six clients a day and four.
Running cost is close to nil compared with IPL: a diode bar is rated in tens of millions of shots and there are no lamps or cartridges to replace, so after the purchase the consumable is gel and time. That is what makes hair removal the fastest-paying machine most clinics buy, and it is why it is usually the first laser in the room.
