HIFU has the widest price spread of any machine a med-spa buys. The same treatment can be delivered by a $2,500 unit and a $70,000 one. The difference is worth understanding before you spend either number.
The range
$2,500–$8,000. Entry to mid professional systems, typically 3 to 7 cartridges. This is where most Chinese-manufactured 7D, 10D and 12D machines sit when bought factory-direct.
$9,000–$25,000. The same class of machine bought through a Western distributor, with support, training and documentation attached. Some US distributors list a 10D HIFU at $20,000.
$50,000–$70,000+. Branded systems. You are paying for FDA clearance held by the manufacturer, a clinical evidence base and a service network.
The number that matters more than the price
Cartridge shot life. HIFU cartridges are consumables with a rated shot count, and this is where the real cost of ownership lives.
A cartridge rated for 20,500 shots and one rated for 100,500 shots are not comparable line items, even at the same price. On a busy list a short-life cartridge can need replacing every few months. Across two years the difference in consumable spend can exceed the price gap between two machines.
Before you compare two HIFU quotes, ask for the rated shot count per cartridge type and the replacement price. A supplier who cannot answer that quickly has not thought about your running costs.
Depth is set by the cartridge, not the dial
Focused ultrasound converges at a fixed focal depth determined by the transducer's geometry. That is why depth is changed by swapping cartridges rather than turning a knob, and why the depths included in the box determine what you can actually treat.
A machine with 1.5, 3.0 and 4.5mm covers the standard face protocol. Adding 2.0, 6.0 and 9.0mm extends you into brow, neck and body work. If those cartridges are an extra purchase, that belongs in your comparison.
Working out the payback
The honest version is short. Take your realistic price per treatment, subtract the cartridge cost per treatment and the operator's time, and divide the machine price by what is left.
The variable that dominates is not the machine price. It is how many appointments you can actually fill. A $6,000 machine in a room with four bookings a month pays back more slowly than a $12,000 machine in a room with twenty. Buy for the list you have, not the list you hope for.
